‘TIS THE SEASON
During the next few weeks, we would like to shower the staff at HSA-FW with notes of gratitude. Want to participate? It’s super easy! There are two ways you can do it:
1) Send your child’s teacher an email. Let them know why you’re thankful for them. Get your kids in on the action too, and ask them why they love their teacher.
2) Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Our PTO will make a physical card for you with the message and deliver it to the school. We will also highlight some of the messages here on our Facebook page.
November is gratitude month, so let’s show them how much we care!
Thanks so much for your participation!

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
We do not offer a hybrid method of instruction for students. Students are not able to attend 2-3 days as in-person and 2-3 days as distance learner. Once a student has selected their Method of Instruction as Distance Learning or In Person, they must remain in that method until the campus is able to accommodate the student’s new request.
If a student continually rotates between the two methods of instruction the student will be transferred to distance learning. In order for the student to be transferred back to in-person, the parent would need to fill out the Instruction Re-Selection form again and wait up to 2 weeks after the form has been submitted to return back to in-person.
Please note: If a student is out sick for a non-COVID illness for 2-3 days and logs in online to complete coursework, that is okay. As a reminder, a doctor’s note is required if the student is out for 3 days due to illness.
This policy and the 90/10 reminder for student attendance have now been added to the playbook.
CLASSROOM SPELLING BEES
This year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee has developed an online testing platform that will allow Harmony Science Academy to host a school spelling bee program, whether your children are learning in classrooms or remotely from your homes. In place of our traditional spelling bee program, we will hold two levels of competition through online spelling tests. The first step to spelling bee participation is for you to register for the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform by visiting https://online-test.spellingbee.com.
I encourage you to watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process:
Once you have registered, I will be able to assign the appropriate grade-level test to your child. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline, and these tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. The student from each classroom with the highest score will move on to compete at the school level. This year, our school-level competition will be administered via online test.
Our school champion will then move on to represent Harmony Science Academy in the regional spelling bee program, which also may include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events.
The first step to spelling bee participation is to register at online-test.spellingbee.com. Please register at your earliest convenience as I will begin assigning tests to students soon. If you have already registered in the online testing platform for another child, you can log in to your account and add an additional child to that same parent account. There is no need to register a different email address for each child in your household.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions about our school spelling bee program. I look forward to having your child compete to represent our school!

BOX TOPS UPDATE
Dear HSA-FW Parents,
In Harmony Public Schools, we are committed to doing all we can to keep staff and students healthy and safe. With this goal in mind, we are pleased to share that we will be taking part in a statewide program offering rapid result COVID-19 tests for use in schools. This program will allow Harmony Public Schools to test both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals—including staff and students– and reduce the risk to our school community. This email offers further information on the tests and the testing program. If you have additional questions, you can contact your campus health office.
What COVID-19 tests are used in this program?
This program uses BinaxNOW tests, which provide results in 15 minutes and are administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. You may view a demonstration of the test here: https://tdem.texas.gov/k-12testing/#1603302679410-e6f45d0f-47e4. These tests have been shown to be highly accurate, with accuracy rates of 97-98% for symptomatic individuals.
Who will be tested and when?
Harmony Public Schools will be offering free, rapid, COVID-19 tests to symptomatic students who are on campus as supplies are available. All students obtaining free COVID-19 testing at Harmony will be evaluated by a health services staff or other trained designee before testing will be given. Availability of testing cannot be guaranteed, but will be given to students who are deemed in need of testing. Please note, Students may not be brought to campus or sent to school already feeling ill, including if they are attending virtually. Testing will only be available to those student who begin feeling unwell throughout the school day.
How will the information from the tests be used?
If a parent has given permission for Harmony Public Schools to administer the BinaxNOW test for their child, your child’s school will call you to let you know that your student is experiencing symptoms and that they will be administering a BinaxNOW test. The test administrator will also call to share the results after the test has been administered. Additionally, the student’s parent or guardian will receive test results via text within 15 minutes and will also receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.
Positive results that do not include student identifying information will also be shared with the school/district and state required result information will be shared with the local health department to allow for public health reporting and contact tracing and to determine the stay-at-home period for individuals who test positive. Additionally, the total number of positive tests per school will also be shared with the Texas Department of State Health Services as is required by law.
What happens next?
Tests are available to students who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 and have been evaluated by campus health staff or other campus designee. To participate, parents must complete the consent form. The first date testing will be available is Monday, November 16, 2020.
**If your child is experiencing symptoms and you would like for him/her to be tested, please do NOT send him/her to campus. Instead, please contact your provider or make an appointment at a state approved testing center. This testing option is only for children who begin presenting initial symptoms while at school.
FALL READING CHALLENGE
Reading is a passion we want students to continue to love as they move into their adult lives. A love of reading is one of the best gifts we can impart to our students. Guiding and modeling for students to read more and discover more about who they are as readers this is what a challenge is all about.
